It is said that the word Batik is originated from 2 Javanese words; ‘amba’ which means ‘to write’ and ‘nitik’ which means ‘dot’ which leads to the term ‘to write in dots’, the act of batik itself. Even though the word ‘batik’ is originated from Javanese, no source can lead us to the trace of batik being introduced to us first in Java. G.P Rouffaer even stated how the technique of batik itself was first found in India and Sri Lanka on 6th or 7th century. Another commentaries regarding batik’s origin came from J.L.A Brandes and F.A. Sutjipto, archeologists; both claimed how it was on the eastern side of Indonesia which commenced the batik tradition such as Flores, Papua, Halmahera, and Toraja.
